Moving Mountains
IMAGINE THIS: My son came home after daycare and when we got to the steps he sat on the steps and put his head down with this sad look on his face that could make the strongest man cry. His posture was slumped over, his lip was poked out, and his eyes were hopeless. As a Mother, I’m ready to move a couple of mountains with my bare hands. As I asked him what’s wrong he wouldn’t tell me. This broke my heart because how was I going to move this mountain if he didn’t open his mouth and tell me.
This behavior continued and I noticed that he does this when he needs something that he cannot get on his own. I had to teach him how to ask me for what he needed. So, I started playing the guessing game, do you need this, do you need that, or how about this right here until I found out. Eventually, he began to ask me for what he wanted and needed and now I see this behavior less and less.
Philippians 4:6 (KJV): Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Sometimes as believers we can be on one end of the spectrum or the other. We go to God and we ask Him for what we desire and need and forget to thank Him and pray for everything and everybody else (family, community, church, etc.). OR we go to God and pray for everybody else, thank Him and forget to ask Him for what we desire or need. I struggled with this. The Bible says ask for what you want and you will receive it if it is not amiss His will (the “amiss” part is a blog all in itself J).So, I started getting specific and strategic with my request to God.
Yes, Lord I want you to bless Jane and her kids, my family, my church, and everybody that I see that’s in need. Yes,lord my heart breaks for every article I read or news broadcast I see where people are suffering or being abused. BUT can I ask you for a couple of things that I need and that my family needs?
Simple as that you give your request to God and then you look for Him to do it! This pass Sunday our Pastor preached on how a good word from the Lord can and will meet our very need and be the solution to every negative thing in our lives. Proverbs 12:25 (NKJV): Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad. Don’t let anxiety, depression, and worrying overcome the joy and peace in your life, but begin or keep asking God for what you need with all diligence. Smiling and laughter causes positive energy!
Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5)
